Brittany started dancing at age three at Jessica Morgan’s School of Dance. After 15 years of classes, competing and attending intensives, she decided to pursue dance in college, at James Madison University. During the course of her education, Brittany had the privilege of working with many professional artists including Sonia Rafferty, Liz Lerman, Greer Reed-Jones, Monica Bill Barnes, Gesel Mason and Vincent Thomas. Brittany graduated Magna Cum Laude with a dual BA in Dance and Communication Studies. She also graduated with a special award from the JMU Dance Faculty: Excellence in Choreography and Performance.
Brittany spent a year performing with the West Virginia Dance Company before relocating back to the Richmond area. She then performed locally and toured as a company member of Starr Foster Dance Project for four years. Brittany remains involved in the professional dance community of RVA, sitting on adjudication panels and creating professional work for local dance companies and performing arts high schools.
Brittany has been teaching for Marianne since 2013, specializing in contemporary, but adoring nearly every style. She came up as a devoted ballet and pointe dancer, but also loves the depth, artistry, experimentation and expression found in modern and contemporary dance. She is the Director of both Compass Contemporary and MKSD Company.
Brittany is grateful to be part of the lives of so many MKSD students and is excited to be able to share her passion for the arts with a new generation of dancers.
