Dance Instructor

Taylor Black is a Richmond-based dancer, teacher, choreographer, and bodyworker. She received a BFA in dance and choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University in the spring of 2019, and continued her education later to become a fully licensed teacher for the State of Virginia, a certified EBAS (Elemental Body Alignment System) teacher, and certified Thai Bodywork practitioner. Taylor is a full-time faculty member of the dance department at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for Arts and Technology (ARGS), where her experience with dance anatomy and bodywork informs her teaching practice and choreographic approach heavily. She really enjoys collaborating with other artists and art forms, and has choreographed for the Jazz Band concerts at ARGS and the school musical. Taylor is also the ARGS Chapter Sponsor for the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA). After school, Taylor teaches dance at Marianne Kelley’s School of Dance. She is also the Co-director of Compass Contemporary, a pre-professional contemporary dance company. Taylor’s choreography and dance films have been shown at the Richmond Dance Festival, the Small Plates Dance Festival, and the Mid-Atlantic South Regional Conference of the American College Dance Association adjudication and gala concerts. She has also set work on RADAR Dance Company in Richmond, Virginia for the last two years, and has performed professionally with KARAR Dance Company and Personal Space.
